BEWILDERING reminded the greyhound world why he is rated as one of the best greyhounds in the country with a classy victory in the Group 3 RSN Silver Bullet at The Meadows on Monday night.
The black chaser gave the Thompson family their third straight Silver Bullet victory (Dalgetty in 2015, Aston Bolero in 2016) and the race was never in doubt when Bewildering sat behind Topgun champ Up Hill Jill, considering his superior stamina.
As they reached the 600 metre boxes, Bewildering hit the front and powered to the line to score in a sizzling 29.75, four and a quarter lengths in front of Up Hill Jill, with another Thompson runner Aqua Cheetah getting third.
Owner Serg Buccilli was trackside to witness his chaser turn the Group tables after a gutsy second for his star chaser in the Geelong Cup last month.
“The Thompson family do such a wonderful job with our greyhounds and this is no exception,” said Buccilli.
“The dog had been going very well and when I came in to The Meadows tonight I saw the big crowd and hoped the greyhound would perform in front of lots of people and he was absolutely fantastic tonight. The box draw wasn’t great (box four) but he actually nearly got to the lead on the first corner which was great,” said Buccilli, who raced both Bewildering’s sire and dam before the pair were mated to produce an outstanding litter.
“It is a really special feeling to breed this litter and to also race his mum (Outlandish) and dad (Black Magic Opal) makes it even more exciting. This dog is really special to us and it is fantastic to win a race like the Silver Bullet against some very good dogs.”
