WYNBURN Cutie was the standout performer among the heats of the Simons Carpet One Gold Collar which kicked off at Launceston on Monday night.

The daughter of Destini Fireball and Miss Hetti (a sister to 2012 Group 1 Hume Cup winner Jethro) scored in a best of night 29.74, beating Wynburn Boxer by 4 ¼ lengths for her eleventh career win.

Longford trainer David Crosswell’s stellar run continues as home-bred sprinter Fernando Gold led from go to whoa to down Wynburn Geri by a length in 30.07 with Apollo Blue just behind in third.

The son of Fernando Bale and She’s All Class scored his 8th career victory from 17 appearances.

First held in 1938, the Gold Collar is the oldest feature on the club’s calendar. The Gold Collar has been won by the likes of King’s Idea, Ebony Minda, Royal Griffin, Lygon Leader and Big Moose.

The series finishes next Monday night, with the winner set to pocket $5,000.
