QUEENSLANDER Fast Times has broken down in an Ipswich trial on Tuesday morning and will be forced to miss Saturday night’s Group 1 Temlee at The Meadows.
Part-owner, rugby league great Terry Hill, said trainer Tony Brett had rung him moments after the trial with the bad news.
“I was in the process of booking my flight for Melbourne,” said Hill.
Fast Times’ place now will go to fellow Queenslander Slick who trialled brilliantly at The Meadows last Saturday night. He had also chased home Fast Times in the Group 1 Brisbane Cup at Albion Park late last year.
Hill said Fast Times had trialled a quick 24.80 around Ipswich but pulled up lame in the catching pen.
“It looks like he might have a hairline fracture of the hock, but we will not know until Tony gets x-rays of the dog,” said Hill.
“It will be wait and see about his future at this stage.”
Slick’s breeder, owner and trainer John McCarthy was saddened by the news of Fast Times’ injury but anxious to give his dog a Temlee test on Saturday night racing the cream of the country’s sprinters.
Slick will go into box three.
