STAR Victorians Aqua Cheetah and Invictus Rapid head to Hobart this Thursday night looking to strengthen their claims for the quickly approaching Group 1 Hobart Thousand Series.

The Barry Heawood Hobart Thousand Prelude (461m) – held this Thursday night – is the last chance for greyhounds to automatically qualify for Thursday week’s Group 1 Hobart Thousand heats.

The locals will have six of the eight runners in the event, highlighted by Gold Cup winner Two Bills, who continues to race in fantastic fashion for Shane Whitney.

The Seona Thompson-trained Aqua Cheetah and Invictus Rapid will look to continue the fairy-tale ride for the Pearcedale conditioner, following the recent Melbourne Cup victory of Aston Dee Bee.

Still searching for a break through victory at Group race level, Invictus Rapid has been a model of consistency throughout his stellar career, including runner-up performances in the G1 Peter Mosman Classic and G2 Healesville Cup as well as being a finalist in the G1 Silver Chief, G1 Harrison-Dawson, G2 Shepparton Cup and G3 Darwin Cup.

The son of Cosmic Rumble and Miss Fiesty, has won 27 of 78 starts, and has drawn box six for Thursday night’s feature.

Two-time Group 1 victor Aqua Cheetah has drawn favourably in box one for Thursday’s prelude, making his Tassie debut.

The son of Cosmic Rumble and Dalta Bale, took out the Adelaide Cup and also ventured to Dapto taking out the Group 1 Dapto Megastars back in September.

Of the local brigade, Shane Whitney’s Two Bills assumes top billing, a last start Hobart winner in a fast 25.93.

Recent St. Leger winner Gotta Be You has strong claims with the son Fabregas boxed to show his early burn as well.

Collectively, the eight runners have won prizemoney totalling $664,497.
