NORTHERN Rivers racing at Casino last Friday staged five heats of the Don Waldron Anniversary Trophy (484m), with the final taking place this Friday.
The heats saw a plethora of class dogs battling it out for spots in the final, including current 411m track record holder Go Lassie Go, who blitzed heat three by ten-and-a-half lengths.
The Darren Russell-trained speedster was the fastest heat runner with a scorching 27.50 performance.
Amongst the other finalists is another of strong Russell’s team, namely Barrum Starsky, who overcame early trouble to finish second, narrowly defeated on the line.
The in-form John and Glenda Dart-trained Neeky’s Way and Team Jarvis are also in the mix for the finale, winning their heats in times of 27.57 and 27.71 respectively, the second and third fastest times of the day.
North Casino trainer Shane Robinson also landed himself two spots in the final with runner-up Poppy’s Rose and heat winner Warrior Rose.
The littermates head into the finale with strong credentials, with Poppy’s Rose a length short behind Team Jarvis, while Warrior Rose came from behind to clinch his spot by a neck over Kingsbrae Millie.
The final this Friday will hand the winner a very tidy $5,000 with second receiving $2,000 and third, $1000.
