THE Wise Misty juggernaut continued at Albion Park last Thursday night and she now heads into Thursday night’s Group 2 Queensland Futurity Final (520m) the hot favourite.
The daughter of Paw Licking-Wise Forecast ran 29.64 when winning her Futurity heat last Thursday night as the $1.70 favourite for owner-trainer Craig Hazelgrove.
She downed Sydney visitor Poco Dorado and locals Hara’s Honey and Sleight Of Hand.
It was her 16th victory in 24 starts but the most impressive aspect of her career is that she has now won her past 10 races and 13 of her past 15.
This is the first Group finalist for Hazelgrove.
And he is beaming with confidence after the bitch came up with the two box in the final.
“I love it,” he said. “This bitch loves to rail.”
And she is a near faultless beginner, and proving stronger and stronger with more racing. Wise Misty reeled off a slick 5.51 first section in her heat win and came home in a strong 12.56.
Despite her $1.70 odds, Hazelgrove admitted he was concerned about meeting such tough opposition as those against her in the Futurity heat.
“But I have also thought that about her three top grade starts lately,” he said. “I thought she would be tested in them, but she has won them all.”
Hazelgrove has been offered up to $40,000 for his bitch, given to him as a birthday present by his mother Noela, but refused the offers.
“I told them she is just not for sale,” he said. “You don’t sell your mate and I can tell you she is my mate.”
Brandi Primed For Futurity
BRANDI Alexander forged into her second Group final in just a nine-start racing career when she won her way into Thursday night’s Group 2 Queensland Futurity Final.
She won her heat last Thursday night at Albion Park in 29.79 scoring by a neck over the fast finishing Ella Enchanted with Veloce Nero in third.
Brandi Alexander had already been a finalist in the Ipswich Auction when third to Tray Bit.
“She went enormous,” said trainer Tom Tzouvelis of the Magic Sprite-Miss Lauryn bitch. Littermate Sleight Of Hand will also run in the final for astute trainer Jeff Cumming.
“This bitch has just turn two years old and already she is in her second Group final,” said Tom.
“I was worried about her after she fell at Ipswich in the semis of the Vince Curry Maiden. But she was fearless in the Futurity heat.
“She was being galloped on from behind by Ella Enchanted and then the seven Power Service came across from the outside and put a lot of pressure on my bitch at the first turn.
“But she kept going and it was a great win.”
A great form student, Tzouvelis believes likely hot favourite Wise Misty is virtually handed the race from her box two draw in the final.
“But our bitch is not out of it even though she has the four box,” he said.
Sydney visitor Ella Enchanted is reported to have slipped post to post at Albion Park in her lead-up to the Futurity in a phenomenal 23.85.
Tzouvelis was aware of that effort and says Darren Sultana’s bitch will be improved on her run in the heat.
“But she can be slow early and it will be hard in a Group final to run leaders down,” he said.
“Wise Misty looks to be given the race.”
