COONAMBLE Club officials couldn't be happier with the response to this year's October Long Weekend Carnival, with a bumper 38 races penciled in for the opening two days of racing this Friday and Saturday.

Headlined by an outstanding 11 heats for the Ladbrokes Gold Maiden (305m) on Saturday, with the $10,000 to-the-winner finale programmed for a gala day of racing Monday, some impeccably bred youngsters are set to kick-start their career in the time-honored maiden, now into its 42nd year.

Supported again in 2018 by major sponsor Ladbrokes, the four-day Carnival has brought together a terrific band of sponsors, with Club spokesperson and Carnival organiser Kevin Gordon tickled pink with the response.

"I must admit, the club has been a little concerned as to the response we would receive but we couldn't be happier," said a jubilant Gordon Tuesday, on his way to Coonamble.

"This Carnival means a lot to the local community in Coonamble and the weekend brings the industry together from all areas. The Million Dollar Chase is a great advertisement for the industry but I promise you the Coonamble Carnival is as well!"

With some of the state's leading trainers making their way to Coonamble this year, some sensationally bred youngsters are set to line-up in Saturday's maiden heats, with betting again sure to be spirited.

"We've put together a very strong betting ring this year and I'm sure punters will be more than happy with what they can get set for," added Gordon.

"The most pleasing thing about the maiden heats is the amount of first starters and as we know they always attract plenty of money – I can't wait for the weekend, it really has come together well and all the reports are is that the track is in perfect order."

Gordon also heaped praise on major sponsor Ladbrokes, as well as the long list of other supporters of the carnival.

"It's hard to single anyone out but Ladbrokes' ongoing support is vital to the Carnival's future and there isn't anyone involved in the weekend that isn't hugely appreciative of their ongoing sponsorship."
