Field's Talented Duo On The Rise

LADBROKES Gardens has been a happy hunting ground recently for trainer Brad Field, and with two live chances at this Friday afternoon's program, the East Gresford conditioner is hoping that stretch of good form only continues.

With just the two greyhounds currently racing, Field has recorded victories with his past five starters, Prince Sunrise scoring at his three most recent outings, including a dead-heat last Friday, while Sunrise Flame has claimed wins at her last two appearances.

"You always need luck but they're both heading the right way, they still have a lot to learn though to take the next step," said Field on Thursday.

"My wife Charmaine whelps and rears litters for people and we managed to get these two pups out of litters we had here for people.

"When I was breaking Prince Sunrise in he was showing us he had a lot of ability, he was running time at Maitland and The Gardens and not many go at both like he was when they're being educated.

"If he puts it all completely together and learns how to come out properly, he could be a very handy dog."

Prince Sunrise, a two-year old son of Fabregas and Mumza Pearl, has enjoyed a terrific start to his career for Field, winning six of his nine appearances, with four wins at Maitland sitting alongside his two Ladbrokes Gardens successes.

"I don't mind him drawn out in box seven on Friday actually, he's very strong, for him the main thing is that he gets through the first corner untouched with clear running.

"He's still learning but I really think Richmond will suit this dog, actually both of them. The 535m on a big track will be ideal. For now though it's about placing him right and making sure he keeps learning against the right level of dogs.

“When that's happened we can start looking at heading to town and other things."

The third event on Friday afternoon sees Sunrise Flame go around from box two for Field, tackling a rather strong fifth grade field over the 515m.

"I'm still not that sure about her being drawn down near the inside," said Field of the daughter of College Causeway and Nevada Flame.

"She's only had the four starts (3 wins) and is on the up, Friday is another class rise but I'm really happy with her.

"She's a lot like the dog, she's very strong so it's a matter of getting a clear run early into the race – I think Richmond will suit her later on as well and she'll definitely get further, even 700m I'd say.

"In her race, Daniel's dog (Explosive Drums) will be carving down from out wide and the red (Uncontrolled) goes good as well. It didn't surprise me at all when my bitch went 29.69 to win her maiden last year; I knew by then how good she was.

"As I said, she'll get further later on but I'm not going to push her."

With the warmer weather now on the way out, Field said he's readying grand old campaigner Hansome Junior for a return to the races, the 11 race winner closing in on five years of age.

"He's nearly five now but you wouldn't know it looking at him," said Field.

"I'm actually giving him a run tonight (Thursday) – we just decided to give him a break over the hotter months at his age, he loves racing and there's still a bit left in those legs yet."
