Moroney Youngster Causes Pandemonium

DURING her racing days, Tick Away Fire was a more than handy sprinter for owner/trainer Mark Moroney.

DURING her racing days, Tick Away Fire was a more than handy sprinter for owner/trainer Mark Moroney.

15 race wins, including some slashing winning times, for example 30.48 at Richmond over the 535m and a smart 30.06 at headquarters, there's little wonder Moroney always had her pegged as a future brood.

Fast forward to Maitland last Thursday and Moroney's judgement looks to have proved spot on, following the exceptional maiden victory by emerging youngster Pandemonium, scoring over the 400m in a flying 22.30.

A son of in-form sire Dyna Double One, Pandemonium landed Thursday's maiden by 2 ½ lengths in best of day figures, made even more impressive by the fact the exciting youngster is just 17 months of age.

Moroney's success with this bloodline isn't anything new, not only racing dam Tick Away Fire, but also her dam, turned successful brood, Cathella Ice.

Cathella Ice has thrown a swag of winners for the Doyalson North trainer, including prolific winner Fire Elusive, the son of El Grand Senor successful on no less than 29 occasions during his racing days.

Manuel's Hot Run Rolls On

TRAINER Michael Manuel claimed a race-to-race winning double on Thursday afternoon courtesy of highly promising performers Cop A Chevy and Swizzle Sticka.

Cop A Chevy, a son of Kinloch Brae and Cop A Sling (sister to No Donuts), made it 10 wins from just the 16 appearances with Thursday's dazzling 24.93 romp, defeating runner-up Hey Duggee by 8 ¾ lengths in best of day figures.

A race later, Swizzle Sticka took out the Newcastle GBOTA Christmas Gift Final (400m) for Manuel, the fawn son of Barcia Bale and Sticka Size showing his customary early dash to find the lead before landing the event in a smart 22.41.

Enjoying a terrific start to his career, Swizzle Sticka lacks nothing in pedigree, from a line that's produced gallopers the ilk of Elite Blue Size and Size Does Matter.

Oxley Rebel Claims Christmas Spoils

MUCH traveled galloper Oxley Rebel backed up his impressive heat victory a week earlier to claim Thursday's Christmas Cup Final oat Maitland over the 450m.

Trained by Darren Sultana, the son of Barcia Bale has only faced the starter on 22 occasions but is already onto his fourth trainer for owner Alwyn Watts.

Running down leader Caishen to land Thursday's Cup in a slick 25.02, Oxley Rebel claimed a sixth career win and looks to have found a real home at Sultana's Londonderry kennels if his past two efforts are anything to go by.
