Sporting Icons Headline ‘The 715' Calcutta

APPEARANCES by Paul (the Chief) Harragon, Mark (Junior) Waugh and Jim (Pumper) Cassidy will headline the inaugural ‘The 715' Sportsman's Lunch at Merewether Surfhouse on Thursday, May 2.

The afternoon will also see the staging of a Calcutta for the $500,000-to-the-winner ‘The 715' which will be staged at Ladbrokes Gardens the following night.

Tickets for the afternoon – which runs from 12pm to 4pm – are now on sale at $135 per person while tables of 10 can be purchased for $1,300.

That includes a three-course meal and beverage package at the picturesque Merewether Surfhouse with entertainment from three Australian sporting icons.

Dubbed "the world's richest staying event", The Ladbrokes 715 has proved hugely popular since its inception, won by Miss Ezmae in its inaugural year before Zipping Orlando landed the race in 2023 in a nail-biting photo-finish over Nangar Rocket. 

And 2024 promises to serve up another enthralling series with the appearance of superstar stayers Palawa King, a finalist in last year's decider, and Queensland staying sensation Valpolicella, currently atop of early betting markets.
