Sprint Gordon Flashes Into Chase Calculations

SPRINT Gordon will push his Devonport Chase claims when he starts favourite for race nine over the 452 metres at Devonport on Tuesday.

EXCITING juvenile Sprint Gordon will look to push his Group 3 Devonport Chase claims when he starts a raging hot favourite for race nine over the 452 metres at Devonport on Tuesday afternoon.

With the $25,000 to-the-winner series now just a fortnight away, some of Tassie's finest young sprinters are looking to solidify their place in the group 3 event.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Blake Pursell-trained Sprint Gordon is one of those, the son of Spring Gun eyeing a third successive victory after recent 25.83 wins at Hobart and last week's seven-length 25.81 victory at Devonport.

Winner at four his 13 assignments, Sprint Gordon, a litter-brother to the hugely talented Twisted Reality, will start prohibitive odds for the ninth event on Tuesday afternoon from box one.

The best price on offer for the fashionably bred chaser is $1.20, where his main opposition looks to be Hello Lenny (box two) and Born Jamie (box three), the latter a kennel mate to Sprint Gordon, also prepared by Pursell.

The fast class event on Tuesday's card, race seven over the 452 metres, sees Jillian Stamford's prolific winning sprinter Stop Line take his place from box one, a draw he's had on six occasions for four wins and two seconds.

The son of St. Pierre was simply awesome landing his 27th career victory last Tuesday in a best of day 25.51, the performance showing all and sundry he's spot on for the fast approaching Devonport Chase.

Quoted around the $1.30 mark for Tuesday's race, the only conceivable danger as far as betting is concerned is 20-race winner Be Like Bill for Blake Pursell, drawn in box two.

Regarded as one of Tassie's best gallopers, Be Like Bill does have a tendency to get up the track a bit at box rise, a set of circumstances that may very well make the race for a rampaging Stop Line.

The ‘shorties' for Stamford don't stop there either, with Leice Prayer to go around tomato sauce odds in race eight from the red also.

Claiming a seventh career win last week at Devonport with a 6 ½ length 25.63 success, the speedy daughter of Dyna Double One looks mighty hard to beat again on Tuesday as she pushes her Devonport Chase claims also.

The first race on a strong 10 race card gets underway at 12.42pm ESTD.
