EMOTIONS ran high for the connections of Twisted Sister after she continued on her winning way at Devonport on Wednesday afternoon, scoring an outstanding victory in the Ulverstone Pet Foods Breeders Classic Final (452m).

It was second time lucky for the Buckle Up Wes x Suzie's Sister bitch, who finished down the track in the previous Breeder's Classic at Devonport. This time round, the black chaser showed plenty of class, when she held Flash Ruby at bay in the Boxing Day feature.

Twisted Sister's victory brought up her sixth career win, while giving 84-year-old Broadmarsh trainer Joan Nichols her first win in the Tasbred coastal classic.

"It was a fantastic effort by this bitch, my Nan (Joan) trains her and I handled her for my uncle Allan (Nichols) which makes it a real family affair," said a proud Jason Fahey, grandson of Joan Nichols.

"This bitch deserved another crack at this race; I think she has improved at least a couple of lengths."

Twisted Sister qualified for her second feature final when winning her Breeders Classic semi-final in 25.84, leading throughout from box six, and after drawing inside in box two for the $5,000 to-the-winner decider, she started second favourite behind Friday Frothies at $2.60.

Twisted Sister took the lead at the top turn, crossing early leader Flash Ruby and proceeded to race away.

It was a simple matter of times and margins when Twisted Sister kicked away approaching the home bend, scoring convincingly over Flash Ruby with Buckle Up Azona running on late to grab third.

"My nan (Joan) would be absolutely over the moon to see this bitch win, pop (Keith Nichols) passed away a few months ago – we bought both Twisted Sister and her brother Young Recruit from Shane and Tony Stennings," Jason added.

"We reared both pups at home from four months of age and had them broken-in on the mainland.

"My uncle bought Twisted Sister off Pop just before he died."

Part-owner Allan Nichols was simply elated with Twisted Sister's top-class performance.

"Mum (Joan) has done a fantastic job with this bitch, Dad would have been so proud," said Allan.

Victory in Wednesday's final gives sire Buckle Up Wes his second Breeders Classic victory for the year, having produced 83 winners so far with 148 minors from just 24 runners with 489 starts combined for 2018 – exciting statistics!
