Winning Box Stats…By The Numbers

IT'S a widely held view that box one is generally a decided advantage in greyhound races.

Not accounting for a particular dog's racing traits, where box one can sometimes be ‘nuclear' for a wide running slow beginner, few trainers would pass up the opportunity to land the cherry, regardless of the track or distance.

So do the numbers support that theory? The short answer is yes.

With the statistics compiled here from races run between 2015-2018, box one holds a decided advantage when it comes to winning strike-rates, basically responsible for the top 25 strike-rates for Australasian TAB races.

Leading that charge is the coveted rails alley over the 319m at Strathalbyn, where a remarkable 32.3% of the events staged since 2015 have been won by box one.

207 of the 641 races conducted to be precise.

In fact, box one at Strathalbyn over all distances holds a decided advantage on weight of numbers.

Not surprisingly, box one at the Ladbrokes Gardens 400m start figures prominently on the list as well, winning 705 of the 2763 races staged the past three years, a strike-rate of 25.5%, incredible given the volume of racing from the bend start.
