EXCITING youngster Rooster Bush showed his rivals a clean set of heels to land Tuesday afternoon’s inaugural Palmerbet sponsored Zoom Top Maiden Final (440m) at Goulburn.
The series is named after champion Hall Of Famer Zoom Top, who commenced her remarkable racing career at Goulburn 50 years ago, with the club staging the annual event in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Australian greyhound racing fabric.
Eight action packed heats were staged last week in the lead up to Tuesday’s ripper $10,000 to-the-winner final, with some of NSW’s best young chasers strutting their stuff.
With some hugely talented youngsters going around, betting for Tuesday’s final was about as fierce as you’ll see in a feature race, with the favourite installed at $4.00.
Beginning with gusto from box four, Rooster Bush – a son of Magic Sprite and Cawbourne Rev – gave nothing else a look-in from soon after box rise, holding a comfortable 3 ¼ length margin over runner-up Famous Prince in a fast 24.87.
Bogan Doonie finished third for Neil Staines, another 3 ¾ lengths away.
But all the plaudits were with the Jodie Lord-trained Rooster Bush, a litter brother to smart Canberra winner from Sunday Tough Torque, sizzling over the 310 metres in 17.92.
Another of the litter, Unchangeable, goes around at Dapto on Thursday night as a short priced favourite, looking awfully hard to beat from box one in the opening event of the program.
They are certainly a litter worth keeping a close eye on, appearing well above average.
