Young gun Jimmy Newob recorded the biggest victory of his career on Sunday night, taking out the $25,000-to-the-winner St. Leger Final (460m) at Warragul.

The son of Cosmic Rumble and Nosey Rozey jumped cleanly from box one before showing superior speed, holding a handy lead as they reached the first corner.

The blue chaser tracked wide approaching the home turn, pulling out all the stops to hold off the fast-finishing Trouper to score in 25.74 – his 12th win from just 22 starts. Petadale finished third, while boom pup Zara’s Entity was unplaced for the first time in her short career.

Jimmy Newob’s victory helped push his prizemoney to just below $100,000. He is trained by Barry Fullerton for the Newob Syndicate.

In April, Jimmy Newob equalled Fernando Bale’s Bendigo 425-metre track record, running a sizzling 23.39.
