TWO heats of the Sale Distance Championship (650m) kicked off on Sunday, with less than a length separating the two winners in the perfect lead-up for the track’s Group 1 Cup series, which kicks off on December 17.
The Mark Delbridge-trained Dyna Dean continued his impressive middle-distance form with a hard-fought victory over Group 1 finalist and early leader Brueghelino, stopping the clock at 37.66.
The son of Kiowa Mon Manny and Prue Bale has won three of his last five starts, including back-to-back 34.23 gallops at The Meadows in November.
Dyna Dean is one of four Sale Distance Championship finalists for Delbridge, who also puts the polish on Allen Lottery, the in-form Zambora Idol and Dyna Chill.
The second heat was taken out by Royal Intention for Pearcedale trainer Dianne O’Neil, making it three wins on the trot in his impressive 37.62 gallop. The son of Barcia Bale and Uno Lesson has rejuvenated his career as a middle distance chaser after an amazing start to his career, winning his first four over sprint distances before a serious shoulder injury kept him off the track for over five months.
Sunday’s decider is worth $10,000 to-the-winner, with many of the finalists getting ready for a tilt at the Group 1 Sale Cup – a $110,000 final to be run on Boxing Day.
