RealBookie Background

RealBookie is the brainchild of prominent rails bookie Mark Sampieri, who established himself in the bookmaking game after working his way up from being a payout clerk and pencil pusher for his father, another famous bookie Graeme Sampieri.

However, in early 2020 Mark Sampieri felt it was the right time to move his business in a more online-oriented direction, an approach that proved beneficial as the effects of COVID-19 further hit the on-course bookmaking game. As a result, Mark and another famous rails bookie in Robbie Waterhouse signed deals with the BetMakers Technology Group to launch their businesses as digital offerings in June 2020.

Mark explained his reasoning to Punters journalist Luke Sheehan in October 2020: "It's (on-course bookmaking) been going downhill for a number of years. I've just gone online, but I've been thinking about that for a couple of years. The only reason I did go online was because I could see the writing on the wall, especially the last 2-3 years. The turnover's just gone down and down. People just aren't going to the races, so if people aren't going to the races, there's no solution (for trackside bookies). You need the blokes rocking up with a couple of grand in their pocket willing to have a bet, and if they're not coming then you can't do anything about it - there's no way you can resurrect it. I've run my business very successfully at home in the last six months. I service my phone clientele whenever I want to turn my phones on. I have mostly been more successful on a percentage profit basis sitting at home for six months than I would've been if I was at the races, because I'm not dealing with the type of people that go to the races now, the likes of the professional punters that can't get on with the corporate bookies. You're left with punters arbitraging off Betfair … unless you're talking your big spring carnival day, but they come around a handful of times a year. So 99 percent of the time you're dealing with hardened, seasoned punters or bookies betting back with you - so the on-course environment has been getting very difficult to survive at over the last 2-3 years and that hastened my desire to go into the online environment. I would've loved to have been an on-course bookie for the rest of my life."

RealBookie are licensed by Racing Victoria and regulated by the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation.

RealBookie Review: Summary

As mentioned, RealBookie is a 100% Australian-owned online wagering company that was the brainchild of prominent rails bookie Mark Sampieri. A new offering in the Australian betting landscape, RealBookie started out in June 2020 as a digital betting destination using a platform supplied by the BetMakers Technology Group.

They may be a new offering but Sampieri brings a wealth of betting knowledge to the platform that the company started building when his father Graeme Sampieri opened his rails operation in 1966. With both the Sampieris having gone head to head in betting duels with the likes of Kerry Packer, it's fair to say they know a thing or two about setting markets for horse racing.

And this is where RealBookie genuinely shines, as they offer some seriously good prices on runners across the three racing codes of thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing and a respectable range of sports betting markets as well.

Their Racing odds and tote products warrant a mention, with RealBookie offering a 'Best of the Best' tote product (best of the three totes or top fluctuation). They also provide competitive fixed odds and exotics markets across all three racing codes. In terms of betting, RealBookie don’t offer the more niche options like Odds vs Evens, H2H betting or Same Race Multis which might be a drawback for some.

It does have to be mentioned that RealBookie's markets are a little limited compared to some of the major bookmakers. For instance their Greyhound racing markets were restricted to Australian venues, while some of their competitors offered markets for international greyhound races, with the same limitation coming up for harness racing as well.

However, when it comes to sports betting, it looks like RealBookie have put substantial effort in to improving their markets. At first glance, when going to look at the sport markets section, some clunky website design made it initially feel like RealBookie wouldn't offer a great deal. But upon checking some of their English Premier League markets, it quickly became apparent that RealBookie delivered some serious markets for each individual game when it came to scoring and player markets. You're not going to get the seriously niche offerings like how many corners are taken per match on Real Bookie, which may be a slight drawback, but then again, you probably do't need them with this bookmaker either as they appear to be focussed on the markets that matter.

Ultimately, RealBookie is definitely a bookie worth checking out. It’s still only early days for the company, so it will be interesting to see them grow and adapt to what the punters want. RealBookie already boasts some unique selling points like the knowledge that Sampieri brings to the business. And overall what's very clear is the fact they're a serious punting site as encapsulated by the slogan on their website, Real Betting, No Bull!

RealBookie Offers Review

RealBookie certainly delivers some classy promotions across both racing and sports.

There are money back promotions if your horse finishes second, third, fourth or even fifth in a race but still comes within one length of the winner. Not too many bookies offer the chance to get money back for a fifth-placed finish, so this is definitely worthwhile in a blanket go, giving customers the chance to get something back in Bonus Bets.

And, RealBookie gives everyone the chance to have five Price Bumps every day. Just go to your betting slip and click on the Price Bump button where it will tell customers how many Price Bumps they have remaining for the day.

There are also Money Back options for Sports markets as well with RealBookie offering Bonus Bets back in the event one of the legs of  a multi fails.

How do RealBookie Bonus Codes work?

All bookies used to offer promos and had codes for them, but that changed due to new laws and regulations being announced. Now, betting has moved into the 21st century anyway and you don’t need a RealBookie promo code to get the promotion, it is usually automatically applied to your account.

If you want to see any features or promotions available, you’ll need to sign into your account or sign up to RealBookie which will take 1-2 minutes maximum. While you no longer need RealBookie codes, it is still important to check out what’s on offer in the Promotions section of the site - just click on the word Promotions in the top banner - before placing your bet as you don’t want to miss out getting the biggest ‘bang for your buck’.

So things like RealBookie bonus bet codes for sign-up bonuses aren’t really used anymore. The good news is that there are other awesome promos available from this bookie. Overall, there is definitely enough offered by this bookie to consider signing up with them, so make sure you check out RealBookie today.

RealBookie Website Review

As previously mentioned in this review, RealBookie is a very new digital offering, having commenced operation in June 2020. The organisation is committed to focusing on what customers want like providing quality markets across the board.

However, the RealBookie website could still do with some improvement. The site appears a little clunky and dated compared with some of the newer offerings from sites like Sportsbet and Neds.

The site still contains everything one needs for punting, but the user experience may be somewhat lacking as it appears to be very text heavy at times, especially when one initially goes to the Racing page and is confronted by a whole stack of countdown numbers to the upcoming races across several courses around the country.

But as we have mentioned, we feel that RealBookie may be something of a work in progress in this regards. Early reviews for RealBookie highlighted the fact that sports markets were limited, but more looking at this on the bookie's website suggest they have made marked improvements in this regard, so we suspect some website improvements are probably on the cards as well.
