$1000 Xmas Buy Eyes $75,000 Cup Triumph

A FEW years ago now, trainer Louise Cameron's husband Steve asked what she wanted for a Christmas present, the reply was a greyhound.

A FEW years ago, Louise Cameron's husband Steve asked what she wanted for Christmas.

The reply was a greyhound.

On Monday, that $1000 pup purchase, now named Midnight Cambla, runs for a purse of $75,000-to-the-winner in the Group 3 Bundaberg Cup (531m).

“Of course we had a kennel full of greyhounds at the time,” said Louise. “But, that's what I wanted.”

FIELDS AND FORM BUNDABERG MONDAY

Midnight Cambla (Kinloch Brae-Gunnadoo Flash) goes into the Cup final as a “lucky” inclusion and will come out of box four against a star studded line-up.

The Bundaberg Club ran a special series to give one of the local hopes direct entry into the Cup final, but the final of that series was abandoned and Midnight Cambla got the lucky nod and a spot in the cup via a ballot.

“It's an absolute thrill to be in the Cup,” said Louise.

“Of course, anything can happen in racing.”

“Anything” can happen in racing and Louise has already won a Bundaberg Cup with Cambla Girl back in 2015.

“It was worth $3500 to us to win that Cup with Cambla Girl,” said Louise comparing that with Monday's winner's purse of $75,000.

But, Cambla Girl, now a sprightly 11 year old, will be at the track on Monday for a “meet and greet” of celebrities on Cup final day.

Of Midnight Cambla, Louise is well aware her bitch needs to get to the rails, and is desperate for the 531m distance.

“It took her 12 starts to win a 460 metre maiden, but as soon as she did, we stepped her straight up to 550 metres,” said Louise.

“She loves to get onto the rails and having the four box will give her a chance to get across.

“The trouble is she does not have a lot of early speed.

“We could also possibly step her up to further distance in the future.”
