Aston Kimetto Eyes Shootout Berth

Powerhouse sprinter Aston Kimetto is one of the first greyhounds expected to be nominated for the Shootout.

"The plan with him is to head towards the Shootout," said trainer Seona Thompson yesterday on Sky Sports Radio's Going Greyhounds.

The son of champion stayer Sweet It Is produced a crazy last-to-first win in last Friday's Group 2 Geelong Cup.

"For him to do what he did on Friday night, I don't think there's been a bigger run this year. A four dog field will definitely suit him."

Yesterday Facebook fans were asked who they would like to see compete in the $25,000 four-dog, winner-takes-all spectacular.

Aston Kimetto's owner Ray Borda was quick to share his thoughts, suggesting his Geelong Cup hero can run 29 flat around Sandown Park.

Thompson also revealed that Topgun winner Poke The Bear is doubtful for the Shootout, with his next start likely to be the RSN Silver Bullet at The Meadows on Monday night.

Nominations for the Shootout close at 11am on Monday with the field to be decided and announced not long after. It will be run Thursday November 8 alongside the fourth and final TAB Melbourne Cup Prelude Series.

All four Shootout finalists and Prelude winners are exempt into TAB Melbourne Cup heats on Friday November 16.
