Bewildering Set For Big Season At Stud

DAVID Brasch looks into the outstanding stud credentials of retired powerhouse galloper Bewildering, standing at Tony Wiseman's Sires On Ice.

SIRES On Ice studmaster Tony Wiseman admits he plays favourites.

By that he means, every day he walks along the kennels to take in the stud dogs he has, there are four that take pride of place.

They are Keybow, Zambora Brockie, Dyna Villa and the latest addition to the kennel, Victorian star Bewildering.

“Every one of them is the ultimate greyhound,” says Tony. “They are just magnificent.

“We all know about their race records and just how good they were, but when it comes to the looks department, this four are pretty special.”

Keybow, Zambora Brockie and Dyna Villa already have runners proving they can toss up a pretty hot race dog.

Bewildering is the new boy on the block, and already he is proving popular with broodbitch owners.

The son of Black Magic Opal-Outlandish by Collision arrived at Sires On Ice with a reputation.

From 41 starts he won 17 was seven times second and one third.

He earned $247,000 in stakes from wins in the Group 2 Warrnambool Classic, two Group 3 Speed Stars and a Group 3 Silver Bullet.

He was second in the Group 2 Shepparton Cup, Group 2 Geelong Cup but a finalist in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup, Temlee, Adelaide Cup, Harrison-Dawson and National Sprint.

That's five Group 1s, five Group 2s and one Group 3 he contested.

And, he ran 29.03 winning at Sandown. In fact, he recorded blistering times everywhere he went.

He's also got a pedigree to match.

By superstar sprinter Black Magic Opal (sire also of Black Opium, Lightning Frank, Despacito, Patch Adam etc), he is from Outlandish (Collision-Tocsin by Pure Octane).

Outlandish raced only three times, winning at The Meadows, but broke a hock at her third start.

Bewildering's stud profile here

At stud, she is also the dam of Bewildering's litter-brother Extreme Magic (17 wins, $121,000) and, from a litter to Bella Infrared, she has produced G1 winner Elevated (12 wins, $153,000) and Azkaban (26 wins, $155,000).

Extreme Magic ran a TR at Traralgon, was placed in two Group finals and made another three Group finals.

Azkaban, a $1 Million Chase finalist, has also been in three Group finals.
Elevated won the Group 1 Sapphire Crown, was second in the Shepparton Cup and twice a Group finalist.

From just 11 offspring, all of them winners, Outlandish is the dam of winners of $821,000.

That has been a surprise to no one.

A litter sister to Group 1 star Phenomenal, Outlandish is from the same direct female line as legend Head Honcho. This is also the family of such recent stars as Blazin' Bomber, Ring The Bell and Bells Are Ringin' all Group 1 stars.

Bewildering stands at a service fee of $1610.

He has a real stud dog's pedigree being line bred 3×4 to Brett Lee, 4×3 to Awesome Assassin, and brings in Head Honcho and his half sister Skyline Miss

4×5.

Having Collision as his damsire just about guarantees him success at stud.

Bitches saturated with Malawi's Prince are naturals for Bewildering. And so are those with more Token Prince (ideally through a daughter). Both of these lines have worked sensationally with Collision.

But having Pure Octane as the sire of Bewildering's second dam also does that.

Pure Octane works exceptionally well when he links up with his half brothers Where's Pedro (damsire of My Bro Fabio) and especially Hallucinate (damsire of champion sire Barcia Bale).

Daughters of Barcia Bale will be especially suited to matings to Bewildering. He and Magic Sprite (grandsire of Bewildering) have a prolific “nick” happening.

Collision and Where's Pedro have a proven “nick” so daughters of Fabio should also suit Bewildering because of this success.

Bewildering will be especially suited to bitches by Dyna Tron and Kinloch Brae (sire of Blazin Bomber etc from his damline).

He will also be ideally suited to bitches with Cosmic Rumble in their make-up. Daughters of Cosmic Rumble are goldmines (think Chica Destacada and Te Amo).

There is no Bombastic Shiraz in the bloodlines of Bewildering so bitches with that great pedigree influence should suit.

And, outcross bred bitches will be especially suited to him as well.

That's because there is not one outcross influence in Bewildering's pedigree until the crosses of Grove Whisper and Barneys Alarm on his fifth line.

The fact Bewildering's dam Outlandish has produced Group stars Elevated and Azkaban to US great Bella Infrared outlines just why Bewildering will suit matings to bitches with outcross lines.

Tony Wiseman might admire Bewildering's magnificent looks, but it is his fabulous pedigree and numerous breeding options that makes him look ever so attractive to broodbitch owners.
