Wow's Gosford Cup Defence Right On Track

WOW is right on track to defend his Gosford Cup title after blitzing his opposition to win his heat on Tuesday night in a flying 29.14.

12 months ago the son of Fernando Bale roared into the group 2 final with a track record breaking 28.88 heat victory when defeating Fire Legend.

And it was Mark Moroney's grand campaigner which again chased home Wow on Tuesday night to qualify for a 13th group race final.

For Wow, Tuesday night's emphatic Gosford Cup heat success was career win number 27 from a 46 start career that has netted $337,234 in stakes.

The Danielle Matic-owned and trainer star will exit box five in next week's $40,000-to-the-winner decider where he will start a pronounced favourite.

But in what looms as a tantalizing clash to kickstart 2022, powerhouse sprinter Zipping Kyrgios is sure to make his presence felt after landing his heat on Tuesday night in a flying 29.16.

The John and Minnie Finn prepared son of Aussie Infrared couldn't have been more impressive at his Gosford debut with a 4 ½ length heat win over a fast finishing Vamos Penny.

However to win the Gosford Cup, Zipping Kyrgios, reigning winner of the Black Top, will need to overcome a tricky box eight draw.

Victorian trainer Graeme Jose has made a habit of targeting the Gosford Cup in recent years and the group 1 winning trainer claimed the first two heats on Tuesday night.

Solid performer Aston Shine made a one act affair of heat one in 29.37 before top flight sprinter Lots Of Chatter made full use of box one to land heat two in the exact same time.

Both Jose's runners will no doubt benefit from Tuesday's Gosford hit-out but whether they can raise the bar to match it with superstars Wow and Zipping Kyrgios remains to be seen.

Their chances were aided at the all important box draw however with Aston Shine drawing box one while Lots Of Chatter will exit box three.
