A ‘Star' Is Born! Mowski Equals Dee Bee's Record

A badly torn hip support sidelined the talented Mowski Star in late November but he returned with a bang at Bulli on Tuesday with a remarkable win over 472m.

The Goulburn-trained son of Fernando Bale was credited with 25.79 for his 5 ½ lengths romp over 2022 Goulburn Cup winner Mellcat Big Boy – a mere .01 outside Aston Dee Bee's track record.

His time, however, was not ‘corrected' on Tuesday to the official FinishLynx result and that was 25.78 and equalling the April 2017 benchmark.

"I did not realise he'd run 25.78 but people contacted me and said it posted as 25.79 on the day but online at 25.78," owner-trainer Denice Warren said.

"The oversight was corrected on Wednesday and it is nice that the dog, after suffering what could have been a career ending injury, has come back so well.

"I was bitterly disappointed at Dapto when stewards issued a failing to pursue the lure ‘ticket with injury'.

"Bandit Jane won that race comfortably and he hit the rail in the middle stages. My view was that he performed that way due to the injury and not that he failed to pursue the lure.

"It took a good deal of ice treatment to get the swelling down and I just don't know how stewards can expect a dog to perform when such a serious injury occurs.

"I looked to get the FTP removed but was advised that the request must be lodged within 28 days and it had been longer than that.

"On a very limited preparation, he trialled well at Bulli prior to Tuesday and we knew he was back to his best.

"Last year he ran 28.43 in winning at Bulli over 515m which is only a couple of lengths out of El Magnifico's long standing track record."

Speed and genuine strength is Mowski Star's calling card and, while he has primarily raced at Goulburn and Bulli, the brindle dog can be expected to turn up at Wentworth Park very shortly.

"He's probably better suited on a one turn track but I've got to him another go at Wenty," Denice added.

"There's no feature racing on the calendar on one turn tracks in NSW in coming months and the only other one which is within ‘cooee' of us is the Warrnambool Cup (450m) in three weeks' time.

"Thereafter there's nothing until the new racing calendar is released for July onward."

Mowski Star hails from a complete winning litter of nine which includes Fernando's Quest (26 wins), Golden quest (24) with the siblings collecting just on $580,000 in stakes at a winning strike rate of a tick less than 26 per cent.
