All Hands On Deck For Capalaba Cup Final

ASTUTE trainer Darren Russell heads into the Capalaba Cup final (366m) on Sunday believing Deck Fifty Two can go close to winning.

ASTUTE trainer Darren Russell heads into the Capalaba Cup final (366m) on Sunday believing Deck Fifty Two can go close to winning.

The Barcia Bale and Mitchie Madam dog, bred and owned by popular dog man Laurie Meteyard, comes off a first-up heat win last week in 19.69.

“The box draw is good in the five, but it all depends on what the four (Magical Trav) does at the jump,” said Russell.

“Our dog is normally a good beginner and he has got plenty of speed so he is right in the race.”

Deck Fifty Two is back from an injury to his hip and pin which put him on the sidelines for almost a month.

“Veracity was to be the kennel's big hope in the Cup series,” said Russell. “He is going great up Capalaba and was improving all the time.

FIELDS AND FORM CAPALABA SUNDAY

“But he hurt a hock recently in a trial at Ipswich and will be out of action for a while.

“Deck Fifty Two was always going to be a chance in the series. He had already made the final of the Grafton Cup.”

Russell, a dedicated follower of form, believes the box draw could be against fastest heat winner Impact who won in 19.45 last week for trainer Kevin Ellis.

“The seven will not help Impact,” said Russell. “The six (Ready To Rubble likes to go right at the start and Greg Stella's dog (Made In America) in the eight likes to go left early.

“It's a tricky draw for Impact.”

Russell said he has no plans for Deck Fifty Two after the Cup final.

“He will have a couple of circle trials and then probably go into a 431 metre race at Ipswich,” he said.
