Ample Warning On Track For Temora Cup Defence

VICTORIAN raider Ample Warning begins his Temora Cup defence when he tackles a red hot second heat of the $10,000 to-the-winner Ladbrokes sponsored series this Sunday.

Winner at 25 of his 63 starts, the Graham Glass-trained Ample Warning will look to pick up exactly where he left off after winning last year's Temora Cup decider in comprehensive fashion.

Interestingly, the son of Fernando Bale faces off against the Michael Clayton-trained Bit Flash in Sunday's second qualifier, the 14-time winner also a finalist in last year's Temora Cup following just five career appearances.

Also engaged in a stacked second heat is the Brian Smith-trained Galaxy Blaster, the son of Fabregas going into the Temora Cup series on the strength of four fast recent victories at Wagga and Temora.

Ample Warning exits box one in Sunday's second heat, with Glass telling the Recorder on Friday that his prolific winning sprinter is ready for his Temora Cup defence.

"He's a little bit underdone so I don't want him having a gut-buster Sunday, if he qualifies for the final he'll strip a lot fitter," Glass explained.

"He won three races in December but since Christmas he's only had one start. It's hard getting a run for him a lot of the time at home and he did have a few niggling injuries I hard to work through.

"He's had two 400m trials going into Sunday which have been very good. He does like room to move so I'm just hoping from the red box he gets his own way early."

Responsible for some cracking times on the Victorian provincial circuit, Ample Warning has been a fantastic money-spinner for Glass, and in his rich vein of form is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

"He's a marvel of a dog and he's not four until May so it's not like he's a grey-beard," Glass added.

"The best thing about him is his versatility. He gives his all no matter the box, track or distance, although the 500 at the city tracks is a bit far for him."

Glass makes the trip to Temora on Sunday with three heat runners, Ample Warning joined by So Say in heat four and Fly High Billy in heat five.

"I've only had So Say for a few runs, she ran second last start at Horsham and it was a big effort," Glass said.

"She's a good railer so box one is a plus and she's gone good first up at tracks before. I just hope she jumps because she can miss it.

"Fly High Billy is trained by my son Robert. He's well boxed in eight and is a great chaser … but he just tends to be a little tardy early. He's drawn one of the tougher heats as well."

Sunday's Temora card promises to provide some terrific racing.

The opening heat sees Bathurst Cup winner Nangar Diva tackle Queensland Futurity finalist Kamikaze Cowlick, while the third qualifier sees multiple group race finalist Ebby Infrared tackle grand campaigner Corleone King, a finalist in last year's Cup.
