MATT Lanigan will be watching keenly as Canya Amy makes a bid for a much overdue group victory when she contests Saturday night's G2 Summer Distance Plate final (720m) at Wentworth Park.
But, Matt will be many thousands of kilometres away on holiday in Dubai.
"I make it a point of having a bit of a holiday around this time every year and a mate of mine runs a cricket team in the Dubai version of the Big Bash League," said Matt.
"I'm going over there to catch up with him, watch some cricket, golf and horse racing."
FIELDS AND FORM WENTWORTH PARK SATURDAY NIGHT
Canya Amy's Summer Distance Plate handling will be down to Matt's dad Gerald.
The kennel also has Canya Vivi in the final.
"Yes, she is due to a bit of luck in the big races," said Matt.
"Box draws have always been against her in the big finals, but at least she is getting into them."
Canya Amy has been second in the G1 Association Cup, G1 Sandown Cup, third in the G3 Xmas Cheer, The 715 and a finalist in the G1 Qld Cup and G1 Bold Trease.
"She really needs the fence, but the three is good for her on Saturday night," said Matt.
Canya Vivi has drawn the rails.
"I wish I could swap the boxes for them," said Matt. “But, Amy just needs a clear run and she can win.
"The other bitch went to Sydney for the heats because there was a lack of nominations for the series and I used her as a travel buddy for Amy.
"But, she coped with everything really well. She is probably not a Group bitch, but she will win plenty of city staying races.
"And, we can only hope she keeps improving."
Canya Amy (Sennachie-Bombshell Bandit) will be on the plane next week heading to the Queensland kennels of Greg Stella to be prepared for the heats of the G1 Gold Cup (710m) on January 23.
"She's been there with Greg before and made the Cup last year," said Matt.
"All the work for Saturday night has been done."
