Bailey Bear Hits The Jackpot In Goldmine

SMART chaser Bailey Bear delivered the goods when taking out the Ladbrokes Gosford Goldmine Final (515m) at Gosford on Tuesday.

TALENTED prospect Bailey Bear took his supporters on an enjoyable ride when delivering an easy win in the Ladbrokes Gosford Goldmine Final (515m) on Tuesday.

The Sam Sultana-trained dog was the fastest qualifier in last week's four heats running 29.31 but the favourite on Tuesday was the Peter Mosman Opal winner Nangar Lucy which started at $2.60.

Bailey Bear jumped a $3.60 second elect.

The brindle chaser speared out of box five, running 4.44 to the first mark and from there it was a precession with Bailey Bear stopping the clock at a flying 29.26 seconds.

Bailey Bear defeated Mork Vision ($6.50) by seven lengths with another five lengths back to Nad Al Sheba ($9.50) in third. Nangar Lucy finished fourth.

The win was Bailey Bear's eighth from 20 starts and the $12,000 winner's purse took his earnings to $36,405.

Sultana is now expected to take Bailey Bear to Wentworth Park as the son of Fernando Bale-Nova Heart progresses through the grades.

"He's got another couple of wins in him at Wenty yet," Sultana told the Greyhound Recorder on Tuesday.

"600 metres will not worry him."

Sultana revealed on Tuesday that Bailey Bear became very ill last year when under the care of his owner John Galea, who only recently sent the dog to Sydney to be prepared.

"The dog is lucky to be alive," Sultana said.

"John told me a virus went through his kennels in October last year and it hit him particularly bad.

"He got very sick.

"Fortunately he recovered and has not looked back since."
