Badger's Beast (Beast Unleased-Isla's Style) ran 19.57 to win his heat by six and a quarter lengths for trainer Peter Lagogiane.

It is the second quickest run at Grafton over the distance.

Rushforth Ally, second in The Thunderbolt in 2023, holds the record at 19.52.

Badger's Beast was backing up after finishing second to Daysea's Rory in the Group 3 Straight Of Origin at Capalaba a week ago.

He has won 21 of his 34 starts and already been a finalist in the Group 2 Bulli Gold Cup.

In 10 starts at Maitland he remains unbeaten.

Badger's Beast downed Annihilating and Paw Xena.

Grafton training great, Steve Keep, landed $31 chance What Hope in 20.07 downing Cousin Henry and veteran Rushforth Ally.

Before the meeting began, Richmond track record holder Flash Jet trialled in a fast 19.73 for trainer John Grief.

The super sprinter will be one of the leading chances in this Sunday's semi-finals.
