Beast Pup To ‘Badger' Richmond Track Record

GRAFTON-based Dave Grundy will be watching with intent at the start of the 5th Grade final (320m) at Richmond on Friday night wanting a clear getaway from his dog Badger's Beast.
The son of Beast Unleashed and Isla's Style has gone within a whisker of breaking kennelmate Sicario Beast's track record of 17.83 in the past couple of weeks.
He ran 17.86 on July 31 and then 17.87 in his heat last week.

"I thought if he nailed the start in his heat he would have broken the record," Grundy said.
"Let's hope he does come out running this week, he might just knock off the record."
Badger's Beast, winner of seven and placed in seven of his 16 starts, is trained by Peter Lagogiane who also prepares record holder Sicario Beast, another son of Beast Unleashed.
Dave's great mate, Gary Smith, prepared former Grafton record holder Orara Dan, which is from an earlier litter from Brent Kline's Isla's Style.
"Gary told me Brent had three pups left from the Beast Unleashed litter out of Isla's Style and they were only $2700, so I bought them," Dave added.
"My mum, Denise and her husband Phil Hall were looking at the pics of the pups at three months and mum's friend Sonia picked this bloke out.
"He's a lovely blue fawn. Mum and Phil are part-owners of Badger's Beast."
The dog opened his race campaign in Queensland but he was sent to Lagogiane after that. He had chased home the classy Rio Will Rock in the Bob Vernon Maiden final at Capalaba with the winner running a sensational 19.43.
"Peter has done a great job with this dog," Grundy added.
"He intends to step him up to more distance once this final is over."
Dave has five in training in his own kennels in Grafton, two littermates to Badger's Beast, and three youngsters by his own dog Hummin Gun.
"I got into dogs back in 2014 when my mate Barry Walters gave me a share in a son of She's A Hummin," Dave said.
"It turned out to be Hummin Gun and he won 27 races for us. I bred a litter by him and they will win races for us.
"Hummin Gun is a pet at home these days."
