TWELVE races slated for Sandown Park on Thursday night and while it’s not your vintage card there’s still some competitive clashes with some value to be found.
The highlight of the card is race three where young star Aston Rupee goes through his paces as a short-priced favourite.
RACE 3 NUMBER 3 – ASTON RUPEE ($1.40)
Not a big fan of declaring them when they’re at such cramped odds but this does really look there for the taking for Aston Rupee. Fantastic win at The Meadows on Saturday night and couldn’t be any better graded for this assignment. Should be a comfortable watch and at the $1.40 quote he can add some value into multis and the like.
Need any convincing just check out his Sandown record.
Winner at nine of 18 with his only Sandown start a win in 29.91. Yes, the time is only slow (by today’s standards), but there’s a lot more in the tank with this fella. Drawn well and provided he’s come through his last start fall at Geelong in good order expect he gives backers a great sight. Daph’s Ascend drawn to his outside has speed so expect that battle early plays a role in the outcome.
RACE 7 NUMBER 6 – WHATEVER I SAY ($3.30)
Drops back to the 595m after contesting Saturday night’s Destini Fireball over the 725m. Led in that before tiring late to finish fifth but in both her heat and final of that series when rocket sectionals. Has trialled in fast time here over the 595m and if she finds the front should be awfully hard to run down.
RACE 9 NUMBER 3 SOVEREIGN WIND ($4.40)
Last win was five starts back when scoring at The Meadows in a fast 29.83. Very handy sprinter on his night and this assignment and only needs to produce somewhere near his best to figure in the finish. 10-time winner which boasts a slick 29.47 personal best time at Sandown. The $4.60 currently on offer represents good value.
