Best Bets For Sandown Thursday September 9

IT'S another early start to Sandown Park this Thursday for what is a 12-event card where a few short priced favourites go around in reduced fields.

We've found a couple of well boxed runners on the program which we expect to figure while we've also found one at value that can give backers a sight.

Race 2 Number 1 STARLIGHT DUSTY

We're not breaking new ground here at around the $1.50 quote but really does look the winner from the inside. Runs into a fairly quiet field and only needs to run up to his last start eight-length win at the track and distance in 34.44 to score. Lightly raced and in a good kennel, only has upside.

Race 7 Number 6 WEBLEC BLAZER

Finished third in the recent Speed Star at Sandown where he was the quickest qualifier before never comfortable up the straight at Healesville last start. Only previous Sandown run was a powerhouse 29.36 win and while he's got the tricky draw here the vacant box to his inside is a big advantage. Expect with clear running he proves too strong in this line-up.

Race 10 Number 1 OSPREY PHANTOM

Expect a return to a decent draw sparks a return to the winners list. Hasn't seen an inside draw for ages and worth noting from the red he's 2 from 3. Won the 3 from 7 at the track with a 29.45 PB and while we're taking odds on the red draw clearly has him the one to beat.

Race 4 Number 2 MERLOT

Been a while between wins but mark my words he's nearing another W. Not entirely convinced it's in this field but at the $8 each-way odds prepared to speck. Runs into a strong middle distance field but the inside draw and the small field plays in his favour – if he leads look for a really good run at value.
