Big Offer For Queensland Futurity Hopeful

GROUP 2 Queensland Futurity hopeful Kooringa Lucy has been the subject of a big offer leading into Thursday night's $40,000 to-the-winner final.

CASINO club president Mitch Northfield has knocked back a high five-figure sum for highly promising young bitch Kooringa Lucy.

The daughter of Fernando Bale and Mitcharlie Mia has drawn box one for Thursday night's Group 2 Queensland Futurity final (520m) at Albion Park.

And, Mitch is already prepared to rate her as good, and possibly even better, than her famous mother Mitcharlie Mia, the winner of 38 races and $141,000 in stakes.

“She is very, very young, but at this stage she is doing a bit more than her mother did at the same stage,” said Mitch.

“But, Kooringa Lucy is still very inexperienced for that standard of race. She has not reached the sort of race fitness she should have.”

But, Mitch is still overjoyed the bitch has drawn the rails in the rich final.

“The one alley certainly won't do her any harm,” he said.

While the Fernando Bale x Mitcharlie Mia litter is promising, Mitch holds out greater hopes for the bitch's second litter by Magic Sprite that are nine months old.

“I like them much better,” he said. “They are really nice types.”

Mitcharlie Mia is due on in January and Mitch is contemplating putting her to exciting young stud dog Zambora Brockie.

Of the dangers in Thursday night's Futurity final, Mitch says the Zammit kennel's Sequana, a daughter of Zambora Brockie, will be the hardest to beat after her scintillating 29.66 heat win last week.

Bookmaker Neds have installed Sequana the warm $2.45 favourite from box four, ahead of talented NSW sprinter Kamikaze Cowlick (box three) at $4.

Eye-catching heat winner Elegent Eleanor is $6 from box seven, while Kooringa Lucy is currently $7.50 from the coveted rails alley.
