Blue Moon Rising Keeps Kicking Stud Goals

THE stocks of sire Blue Moon Rising, from a famous racing family, continue to kick big goals despite from limited opportunities.

BARRY Gibbons has been as astute a greyhound breeder as there is for many, many years.

So, when back in early 2022 he put his Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal winner Lilly Banner to G1 star Blue Moon Rising, he was tapping into a bloodline that has become as dominant as any this country has seen.

Blue Moon Rising, generally regarded, like his G1 sisters Poco Dorado and Veloce Dorado, as a stayer, proved to be the perfect option for Barry.

He got G1 Peter Mosman Opal winner Tulsi Banner and her Group class brother Boston Banner.

BLUE MOON RISING AT STUD

Blue Moon Rising and Lilly Banner were both unproven. It wasn't the gamble many would believe Barry had made.

While Blue Moon Rising won 44 races and $531,000 including two Group 1s over distance and was always a dominant force as a stayer, he did run 29.58 winning at Wentworth Park. It was sprint speed not lost on Barry Gibbons.

Tulsi Banner was Blue Moon Rising's first Group 1 winner

The same sprint speed possessed by Blue Moon Rising, Poco Dorado and Veloce Nero's mother, Chica Destacarda (24 wins, $345,000), the G1 National Sprint winner who has become a broodbitch great.

Chica Destacarda is the dam of the winners of $2.044 million from three litters. It is a Group class female family stemming back generations to Group performers.

Blue Moon Rising is not a "one hit wonder". He is also sire of Mitcham Ben (finalist G1 NZ Galaxy), Divine Nature (finalist G3 Murray Bridge Cup), Unique Destiny (finalist G3 Provincial plate), Moon Raider (finalist G3 Taree Cup), Curyo Dancer (finalist G3 Taree Cup).

His winners-to-runners on city tracks stands at 24 percent.

But, the Chica Destacarda/Elthura/Buena Sarah/Sarah Isle direct damline doesn't stop with the success at stud of Blue Moon Rising.

His sister, Poco Dorado is fast chasing down her own mother. Her progeny have won $890,000 with stars like Gets Late Early (G1 Nat Futurity, finalist G1 Dapto Megastar, G2 Black Top), Might Have Been (Dapto Middle Distance Challenge, 3rd G1 Nat Sprint, Country Classic, finalist The 715), Both Bowers Ace (2nd G2 Richmond Derby, finalist Million Dollar Chase), Ain't Waiting (3rd G1 Nat Futurity).

Other branches of the family continue to thrive.

Boston Banner is a multiple group finalist and 29.50 Wentworth Park winner

Blue Moon Rising's unraced litter sister, Steal The Glory, is the dam of Reflections (3rd G1 Paws Of Thunder, finalist G1 Golden Easter Egg), Lady Devine (finalist G3 Ladies Bracelet), Copious (finalist G3 Bob Payne Sprint).

Yet another litter sister, Medio Paso, is the dam of that outstanding straight tracker Mile A Minute (G2 Healesville Cup, G3 National Straight Track, 2nd G2 Bendigo Cup).

The Barcia Bale-Chica Destacarda bitch, Really Unreal (15 wins, $101,000) is the dam of Angel Shirley (Gosford Goldmine).

Timeless Moment, a sister to Really Unreal, is the dam of Ah We Right (finalist Illingworth Classic, Tassie Derby), Power Band (3rd Illingworth Classic).

Yet another branch of this family includes Shooters Hill (2nd G1 NZ Silver Collar).

Blue Moon Rising is already proving a great success with daughters of Dyna Double One which is the cross found in Tulsi Banner, Boston Banner and Brute Banner.

He is also the sire of classy Wenty performer Kangaroo Jack (14 wins, $102,000) which won impressively at Richmond on Friday night.
