12 months ago, August Bob ran a slashing 29.35 in a heat of the Golden Easter Egg and on Saturday he'll attempt to produce something similar in the sixth qualifier of this year's rich autumn Group 1 sprint.

The Steve Fitch-trained chaser has come up with box one for his heat of the time-honoured Wentworth Park feature which offers more than $550,000 in prizemoney across the three-week series.

"He's not superbly suited to the inside at Wenty," Fitch said.

"If he gets pressure on his outside he tends to push off and try to go around dogs.

"If he gets clear air, it won't be a drama."

In recent starts, Fitch tested the waters over the 600m with August Bob and after leading in two of the three starts, he found the extra distance slightly beyond him.

"He might have lost a bit of his explosive speed but he's certainly no slower than he used to be," Fitch said.

"I don't know if he can run what he did last year but you never know. He hasn't lost any ability I can promise you that.

"I gave him a 300 metre hitout on Tuesday and he went as fast as he's ever gone so he's ready to go."

August Bob is a $3.70 elect in early betting for his Egg heat where favouritism is with star Victorian female Lakeview Emily ($1.75) which comes into the series fresh off a slashing win in the Shepparton Cup.

Meanwhile, Fitch has an exciting couple of years ahead with "the best litter" he's ever bred "quite easily" that are starting off their racing careers.

The star of the show is Cumbria Jack which produced a near track record performance when winning at Nowra on Monday night, running an unbelievably quick 29.32.

"As far as I'm concerned, he's a freak," Fitch said. "Only 21-months-old and running times, I've never seen dogs run at his age.

"In his third start he broke the run home record at Nowra over the 365 at 18 months old then last week he became the first dog to break 25 seconds in a post-to-post at Nowra and he probably would have broken the record on Monday if he didn't get a check at the first bend.

"He's a special dog and his litter brother (Cumbria) Benny is only a couple of lengths off him."

Fitch said Cumbria Jack is not for sale and people that have inquired about purchasing the dog have been informed to "add an extra zero".

Cumbria Jack and Cumbria Benny are heading to the Group 2 Nowra Puppy Classic next month before "Jack and possibly both of them" head to Tony Brett in Queensland to be prepared for a tilt at the Group 1 Flying Amy Classic during May and June at The Q.
