THE box draw for the inaugural $1.145m The TAB Phoenix (525m) has been determined.

The first runner to decide their fate was the Ian Gilders-trained Billy Creek with Gilders not surprisingly making a beeline for box one.

The rank outsider in pre-box draw betting, Billy Creek will exit The Phoenix right beside fellow NSW sprinter Jungle Deuce with trainer Jack Smith choosing the stripes for his multiple group race winner.

Queensland Flame winner Spotted Elk will leave trap three for trainer Graeme Hall representing the slot of Racing Queensland.

Sportsbet’s hopes in the inaugural The Phoenix are with exciting youngster Wow She’s Fast and she will exit box four for leading trainer Kel Greenough.

At the halfway point in the box draw connections of big guns Aston Rupee and Koblenz were yet to be afforded the chance to select their draw with the first four selections chosen in numerical order from one to four.

Race favourite Aston Rupee was the fifth greyhound out in the ballot with trainer Glenn Rounds electing box five for the superstar sprinter.

Melbourne Cup hero Koblenz will leave box eight in his quest to become the sport’s greatest stakes earner for trainer David Geall.

Victory in The Phoenix will see Koblenz surpass Fanta Bale as the highest stakes winner.

Drawn directly inside Koblenz will be TAB representative True Collinda for trainer Jason Thompson while WA’s hope, Vice Grip, will carry the green rug for trainer Adam Smithson.
