Box Draw Hands Martin Hobart Mixed Bag

RICKY Martin endured a mixed bag at the box draw for Thursday’s Hobart card but the trainer reckons the cards fell perfectly for Flash Comet.

Ricky Martin's kennel endured a mixed bag at the box draw for Thursday's Hobart meeting but the Tasmanian trainer reckons the cards fell perfectly for last start winner Flash Comet.

Martin heads to Hobart with three great chances according to the bookies and will throw on the one rug on Flash Comet in the Early Sectional Speed Tasracing Stake (340m).

"Flash Comet loves the inside so she looks to be a great chance," Martin said.

"She obviously won the other night at Launceston when she jumped from box five. She is going good and the draw should help her."

Flash Comet provided Martin with a winner at his first meeting back since the coronavirus pandemic enforced hiatus across the state.

The black bitch by Dyna Double One was back to her best in her return as she clocked 16.19 over the 278m.

"She has come back from the break well," Martin said.

"She was probably better off having a bit of a break than to keep running because she had a couple of injuries."

Martin also welcomes the return of the talented Western Creek tonight, which made it three victories on the bounce before the break.

Western Creek is a litter-mate to Flash Comet and will line up in the Ladbrokes Backs Tassie Greyhound Trainers Stake (340m).

The speedy sprinter has clocked a quick 19.30 over the trip but Martin admits the tough draw is a concern.

"Box five will make life difficult but he can go quick," Martin offered.

"He has gone 19.30 a couple of times so if he can jump he should be right in it.

"First run back he normally misses the kick a bit but he might jump or he might not, it's a bit hard to say.

"Hopefully he can pick up where he left off before the break. I didn't have to do much with him in the break to get him back to race fitness."

She's A Princess is also from the same litter and has drawn box two in the Ladbrokes Backs Tassie Greyhounds Stake (340m).

She returned with a fourth placing over the 452m at Devonport back on June 16 and will step back in trip at her second run back.

"She just needs to find a bit of form," Martin said.

"She was a bit unlucky the other day when she got knocked over by the five and only got beaten a length and a half at the finish.

"It would have been better had she drawn the outside but hopefully she can get a change of luck."

She's A Princess is a winner of nine of her 19 starts with 6 placings.
