Box Eight Ideal For Days Of Thunder's Topgun Bid

QUEENSLANDER Days Of Thunder has drawn the right side of the track in her bid for group 1 gloryin Saturday's Topgun Stayers at The Meadows.

QUEENSLANDER Days Of Thunder has drawn the right side of the track in her bid for Group 1 glory when she runs in Saturday night's Topgun Stayers (730m) at The Meadows.

The daughter of Fernando Bale and Melissa's Pride will “flop out” of the eight box in the Topgun and trainer Warren Nicholls says he would rather be drawn there than over near the rails.

“She is one of those bitches who does not like to get tightened up and the eight will allow her to feel her way around The Meadows,” said Nicholls.

Days Of Thunder comes into the race with 12 wins from her 44-start career and $179,000.

“She and I will be flying to Melbourne on Wednesday, I like to give her an extra day or two to settle in,” said Nicholls.

“Of course it is a hard race, but isn't every Group 1.

“Super Estrella must be the one to beat from where she is drawn.

“Our bitch has been competing against most of them for a while now and holding her own.

“But, the bitch is absolutely jumping out of her skin at the moment.”

Nicholls and owner Clint Gill are thrilled to be part of the Topgun invitees.

“Clint is flying down Saturday morning and looking forward to it,” said Nicholls.

The trainer said he is happy the race is at The Meadows.

“I'm confident she will love the dual lure system,” he said.

Days Of Thunder

Days Of Thunder will continue to campaign until the end of the Albion Park winter carnival in 2023.

“We will keep her going until then and Clint and I are really looking forward to getting some pups out of her then,” said Nicholls.

Days Of Thunder has been a staying star for some time.

She won the Group 3 Origin Distance and the Chairman's Cup, has been third at Group 1 level in the Queensland Cup and also placed in the Clem Jones Cup, and a finalist in the Group 1 National Distance and Group 3 Gold Cup at Albion Park.
