Breeders Getting Into The ‘Wow' Factor

HIS name drew attention and, on the track, Wow certainly made headlines.

The handsome son of Fernando Bale had time called on a celebrated racetrack career after a minor wrist injury reoccurred in The Ambrosoli at Wentworth Park on April 9.

Noted for his tenacity, Wow broke records on one and two-turn tracks and has a pedigree which sees the white and brindle dog attracting generous early attention at stud.

"In the last eight or so months of his racing career, we drew semen from Wow and his oldest pups are nearly six months of age," Danielle Matic said.

"There are a lot of high quality sons of Fernando Bale about and some (breeders) will wait and see how his pups break in but he's got 15 litters on the ground now.

"Others have purchased semen to have ready to use and the phone is ringing all the time … he's such a beautiful dog and a pleasure to have here."

Wow's career kicked off at Bulli over 400m but it was not until start four that his first win was registered.

"We reared Wow but Karina (Britton) broke him in and she always considered him to be a high class dog in the making," Danielle added.

"Ïn the end, he broke and still holds three track records – Goulburn (440m), Nowra (520m) and Gosford (520m) – and ran 29.38 at Wentworth Park as well as 30.30 at Richmond.

"He trialled super at The Meadows before winning the Temlee there in February last year in 29.78.

"And there's a seriously competitive side about Bear (Wow). He's a beautiful kennel dog, very quiet but has an attitude regarding competing on the track – and with other dogs – that I really like.

"He switches off when need be yet it's all business on race day."

At retirement, Wow had raced 57 times for 31 wins and 18 placings – his high speed, will-to-win and true grit was there for all to see.

A tall, strong muscled speed machine, Wow is physically imposing.

For now, the waiting game is on but Wow will certainly be a talking point in early 2023.
