Breeders Going Wild About In Demand Aston Rupee

RAY Borda reckoned he'd seen it all when his multiple Group winner and record breaker Aston Dee Bee went to stud a few years ago.

“We were overwhelmed by breeders wanting to use (Aston) Dee Bee,” said Ray of the son of Barcia Bale-Aston Elle which has since turned that popularity into racetrack success through his progeny that includes Million Dollar Chase star She's A Pearl.

But Borda admits he did not envisage the response to recently retired superstar Aston Rupee (KC And All-Aston Miley).

The world knows “Rupee” as the Sandown and Angle Park record breaker, winner at Group 1 level in the Topgun and Temlee and one of the fastest greyhounds of all time.

His 29.39 around The Meadows is just .02 outside the record there as well.

“Amazing,” is how Borda sums up the breeders' desperation to use Aston Rupee at stud.

It is fitting that Borda himself is the breeder of Aston Rupee's first litter born, from Aston Amore and it is a mating that has to be seen to be believed.

Aston Amore is bred identically to Aston Miley, the mother of Aston Rupee.

The litter, five dogs and three bitches, was whelped on June 2.

“Right from the very moment he was retired, I have been inundated with requests to use him at stud,” said Ray.

“It is very pleasing to see breeders hold him in the same awe as racegoers and those who are so closely involved with him.

“Aston Dee Bee has become a top notch stud dog and from the immediate response to Rupee, there is every hope we can expect the same from him.”

Aston Rupee retired the winner of 23 of his 42 starts with earnings of $605,000.

He stands at a stud fee of $3750.
