Breeding Barn: Kat's Belle Of The Ball

KAT Ernst knows greyhounds and she has put this knowledge to good use as producer of The Catching Pen on Sky Racing.

But Kat is also a greyhound breeder.

Her bitch Belmont Belle (Magic Sprite-Finn's Express) was a classy race performer and multiple winner at Wentworth Park.

Kat has put her to Dyna Double One in a bid to recreate the pedigree of champion Aston Dee Bee.

Aston Dee Bee is by Dyna Double One's sire Barcia Bale. Belmont Belle is from the same direct damline, that of Oriental Angel, that produced Aston Dee Bee.

“Her mother won over 300m, 400m, 500m, 600m, and 700m and is from Reg Kay's brilliant line. I brought Belmont Belle as a pup to tap into the line,” said Kat.

“Finn's Express (dam of Belmont Belle) was a nice bitch with a sensational pedigree.”

Kat lamented Belmont Belle, who came on season every six months during her race career, never got to show her true potential at the races.

LIGHTNING Vision's performance in Thursday night's Group 1 Dapto Megastar will have a major Northern Rivers connection.

Lightning Vision (Kinloch Brae-Seeya Sticka) took his record to nine wins from 17 starts when he ran a scorching 29.63 winning his way into this week's rich final.

Breeder Paul Supple has two dogs and two bitches by Barcia Bale-Seeya Sticka half relations to the boom youngster who is already the winner of the Zoom Top at Goulburn and a finalist in the Goulburn Cup.

Paul says all four of the pups are for sale.

Seeya Sticka is a Knocka Norris-She Ain't Late litter sister to former Sandown TR holder and Group 1 winner Unlawful Entry.

The mating of Barcia Bale to a Knocka Norris bitch is the same cross as Barcia's champion son Hooked On Scotch and very similar to his other great son Aston Dee Bee.

Supple has been “plenty busy” breeding of late.

He also reports the two dogs and two bitches by Fernando Bale-Two Parts Freak whelped recently will also be for sale.

It is the highly proven Fernando Bale/Fabregas cross that has produced Group stars Deliver and Slingshot Gypsy.

Two Parts Freak, a feature Maiden winner at Wenty, is from the same direct female family as Barcia Bale.

This too is the cross that produced G1 Australian Cup winner Hecton Bale.

LEADING Victorian dog man Ray Henness has been busy planning for his future in the industry.

He has a host of pups to keep him busy racing for the next few years.

They include two bitch pups Fernando Bale-Chiquita Lass, eight pups by Cutting Edge-Levushka, a litter by Bernardo-Forever Merry, nine pups ready to start education by Fernando Bale from the grand producer It's A Wrap and a very young litter by Zipping Garth-Razldazl Nicole.

Ray also has a recent mating waiting to whelp by Worm Burner-Forever Merry.
Add to that, Ray is already planning for the final litter from It's A Wrap and he is tossing up between Worm Burner, Beast Unleashed or Dyna Villa.

And, to top off all this, Ray has Speedy Evie possibly coming back to racing after a recent hock injury, but he's looking at possible matings already for her.

Forever Merry has Group stars Katie Merry, Miss Mini Mouse and Leprechaun Yap as her three immediate dams.

Razldazl Nicole, is a daughter of Irish Oaks winner Razldazl Alice, and is a granddaughter of superstar Irish producer Razldazl Pearl.

DOUG Rogers, at Camden South on the outskirts of Sydney, has been breeding from the same direct damline for the past 34 years.

It has served him so well, and Doug is adamant the line continues to improve.
Doug has a litter of pups by Fernando Bale from the classy bitch Camden Gossip (College Causeway-Camden Blue).

The Gosford greyhound of the year, Camden Gossip won 21 races and was placed in 15 others. She was a Gosford Gold Cup finalist and winner of a number of feature races.

Littermate Camden Valley won 12 races and was placed 11 times in just 35 starts.

Camden Gossips dam Camden Blue's second mating to Barcia Bale has produced the wonderful Miss Wing Wong 19 wins to date, Truly Dominant and Mind Blowin etc.

Camden Blue is a litter sister to Point Two Over (SA Sprint Champion, finalist G1 Nat Sprint, $96,000) and Random Test (Perth Cup Finalist, $73,000).

TOOWOOMBA-based Darryl McCoy knew he had to put Just A Show to Head Bound in a bid to recreate superstar race bitch Outside Pass.

Outside Pass (Head Bound-Tina's Show) won 31 races and $248,000. Her litter sister Vegas Bound won 11 races and $71,000.

Darryl has two dog pups from the mating to Head Bound for sale. Just A Show won five races and is already a proven producer her litter to Fabregas delivering Ringbark Bella (10 wins, $21,000) and Ebony Mist (8 wins, $22,000) etc.

BRILLIANT speed bitch Lantana Lass has whelped her second litter, three dogs and five bitches to a mating to Cosmic Rumble.

The daughter of Fabregas-Graduation Girl was bred by Bill and Jan Warner but sold to the late Len Antonio for her race career after she broke in with sensational reports.

The bitch raced only seven times for five wins when trained by Tony Brett and was a finalist in the G2 Ipswich Auction and a fast Albion Park winner.

The Warners were able to eventually buy Lantana Lass back.

“We've already had a number of the litter sold,” said Bill. “But, we are also hoping someone would be willing to take her on at stud.

“Jan and I are heading for an extended caravan holiday around Australia.”

THE Bathurst Soldiers Saddle final tossed up an interesting pedigree via runner-up Still Blue.

The daughter of Unlawful Entry-Jordanic by Magic Sprite has already started 17 times for five wins and four seconds and shows great promise.

Her litter contains seven named offspring and five of those are winners and have just turned two.

Dam Jordanic (Magic Sprite-Little Miss Hap) is a half sister to star galloper Beast Unleashed (Barcia Bale-Little Miss Hap) the Group winner and track record breaker who earned $230,000 in his 10 race wins.

But, what is so interesting about Still Blue is the pedigree put together to produce her.

Still Blue is line bred 2×3 to Knocka Norris at the top and bottom of her pedigree, but is significantly duplicated 4×4 and balanced to Spiral Nikita as well.

Knocka Norris and Spiral Nikita come via SONS in Unlawful Entry, but through DAUGHTERS in Jordanic.

It was a perfect mating.
