DAVID Brasch brings us up to speed in the world of breeding, including the news that Kanzan will be served by Fernando Bale later this week.

GROUP staying star Kanzan will be mated to Fernando Bale later this week.

Clinton Payne, head of the syndicate that raced the daughter of Dyna Double One and Asterix (by Collision), made the announcement this week.

What a race bitch she was, and what a litter she came from.

Kanzan showed her versatility, soundness and chasing abilities in 67 starts for 15 wins and 26 placings, earning $81,000 for trainer John Smart, while, when in Victoria, prepared by Terry Reid.

She was something else.

She made the finals of the G1 Bold Trease, G1 Association Cup, G3 Sydney Cup, G3 Summer Cup and G3 Destini Fireball. She was a multiple Wenty and The Meadows winner.

But, she was no “one off” in her litter which also included Group 1 NZ Futurity and G2 NZ St Leger winner Cawbourne Krusty (13 wins, $66,000) who was also second in the G1 NZ Oaks, as well as Cawbourne Liz (18 wins, $43,000).

Their dam Asterix is also the dam of quality litters by Dyna Lachlan and Fabregas.

Kanzan is fabulously in-bred to Luana Bale via genetic sisters.

WITH the Melbourne Cup in everyone's thoughts this week, Cup-winning breeder Di Buxton was saddened recently when she had to put down rising 15-year-old Splitting Hairs.

The daughter of Banker Hud-As Moments Go by Awesome McLaren became the dam of Di's G1 Melbourne Cup and G1 Brisbane Cup winner Got A Moment (by Collision).

“It was a very sad day for me,” said Di. “I bought her mother As Moments Go, bred Splitting Hairs, or Paris as she was known around home, and she was a good race bitch before producing her wonderful daughter.”

Got A Moment, who has retired from her breeding career, and her mum Paris were great chums at the Buxton home in Ipswich. “She is really missing her mum,” said Di of Got A Moment.

Splitting Hairs won seven races at Albion Park and Ipswich for Di Buxton. Her daughter Got A Moment won 15 and earned $478,000.

“Just like her namesake, Paris Hilton, she was a right little monkey,” said Di. “But she was a wonderful mother to her pups and would easily slot in for other bitch's puppies if needed. She loved to baby.”

DI Buxton reports two of Got A Moment's daughter, litter sisters Right On Cue and Leckie City, have produced their first litters.

The daughters of Black Magic Opal could both run like the wind, Right On Cue scorching to a 29.74 around Albion Park in Novice class.

Right On Cue has produced two dogs and four bitches to boom young sire Worm Burner. Warren Nicholls loaned the bitch from Di for the mating.

Toowoomba's Gary Moore also used Leckie City on a pup deal with Di. She has produced two dogs and five bitches to her mating to Zambora Brockie.

Worm Burner's progeny are all showing a great deal of strength which prompted Clint to undertake this mating. Sunset Mouse is a half sister to Group star Pantera Near and this is the same line as Qld-based Group star Dam Slippery.
