Brett's High Praise For Lismore Maiden Favourite

PREMIER trainer Tony Brett is not yet ready to rate Hara's Clyde on par with greyhound of the year and multiple Group 1 winner Fast Times, but he certainly reckons he could get to that level.

Hara's Clyde (Fernando Bale-Hara's Annie) goes into Tuesday night's rich Ladbrokes Maiden Final (420m) at Lismore as the hot favourite after scorching to a 23.84 heat win.

The fashionably bred chaser has drawn favourably in box two for the $20,000 to-the-winner finale.

He is one of three finalists Brett has in the race which he has already won twice, with Fast Times (2016) and Velocity Zoe (2013).

Brett will also have Skilled (Barcia Bale-Velocity Melzon) and Duplicated (Zambora Brockie-Velocity Shirl) in the final.

“Fast Times ran the track record in his qualifying heat,” said Brett.

“This dog is not up to that … yet.

“But he is very promising with oodles of improvement. I really like the dog.

“When he first came into the kennel, he was a bit of a ratbag, but he has quickly settled down now and keeps getting better and better.”

Which cannot be said at the moment for Skilled.

“He's 38 kilos and the best chaser we have had in the kennel since Glen Gallon,” said Tony.

“But he is young and like a future star front rower just into the NRL … learning his game all the time.

“He is the sort of dog who for 24 hours a day is on watch for anything and everything that moves.”

Skilled won his heat in 24.12. Brett says he is desperate for the rails and will crash left to get there.

Of Duplicated, Brett too says the dog has much to learn but is also very promising.

He won his heat in 24.29.

“He's been a mad crasher and has not yet learnt his trade,” said Brett.

“But, it will come and he is a very promising young dog, and a fabulous chaser as well. He can really run.”
