Came And Went's SA Homecoming Up In The Air

TRAINER Andy Lord says it will be up to owner Terry Hill if 29.55 Wenty winner Came And Went heads back to South Australia this week.

ANDY Lord says it will be up to owner Terry Hill if Came And Went heads back to South Australia this week.

Terry Hill says it will be up to Andy Lord to decide.

The owner-trainer combination are faced with a dilemma after Came And Went (Barcia Bale-Hillary) smashed a 5th Grade field by 13 and a half lengths in a scorching 29.55 at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

But the dilemma facing the connections is that Came And Went is drawn in box three for a heat of the Listed South Australian Sprint Championship (530m) on Thursday night.

Came And Went had raced four times for the Lord kennel since moving from South Australia in November but been placed just once.

“He had not been firing up that well for us,” said Andy.

“But he trialled 29.70 first look at Dapto, and he runs up our straight in times that only good dogs run.

“We tossed him into the graded race at Wenty and got a very pleasant surprise.

“He was half a second quicker than the next best on the night.”

That 29.55 performance has prompted Lord to start looking at the upcoming Group 1 Paws Of Thunder series.

“He looks like that would suit him perfectly,” said Andy.

“But, I will leave it up to Terry to decide.”

Hill says that decision is up to Andy.

“Gee, didn't he go good,” said Terry.

“Thirteen and a half lengths and then when the time went up … wow!”

It was his 56th start and 23rd victory for Came And Went which was second in a G3 SA Derby and G3 Gawler Gold Cup and a finalist again in that Gawler feature and also a G1 Adelaide Cup.
