Change Of Kennel For Breeders' Classic Winner

JASON Thompson’s already bulging stocks for the upcoming Silver Chief have been bolstered by the arrival of exciting Tasmanian youngster Recall.

JASON Thompson's already bulging stocks for the upcoming Group 1 Silver Chief (525m) have been further bolstered by the arrival at the weekend of exciting Tasmanian youngster Recall.

The son of Superior Product and Princess Roman transfers to Thompson as the winner at four of his 10 appearances in Tasmania for owner-trainer Jack Jury.

Bundled out of the Hobart Thousand on Thursday night after finishing sixth in a heat, Recall – winner of the Devonport Breeders' Classic at his second start – is a brother to sizzling 29.10 Sandown Park winner Eagles Nest Egg.

"I haven't seen a lot of him but I had a look at his (29.64) Launceston win and I thought it was very impressive," Thompson said.

"Jack (Jury) rang me a few weeks ago about giving him a go and the plan was for him to come over after the Hobart Thousand. He's settled in well and he'll trial at The Meadows next Monday.

"How he goes in that trial will decide whether we go to the Silver Chief or not. There's no urgency if we don't go there but for now it's the target.”

Heats of the Group 1 Silver Chief (525m) are slated for The Meadows on Boxing Day with the $100,000-to-the-winner finale of the all-male classic to be run and won a week later.

And all things being equal Thompson is hopeful of taking a team of eight into the series of a group 1 race he's won on no less than six occasions.

"I've got a good team of young dogs for the series," Thompson said.

"But with dogs like Sunset Spitfire and Flying Ricciardo going there it's going to be a hot series. Luck and box draws will play a big part."

Leading Thompson's Silver Chief charge is hugely talented sprinter Equalizer, the son of Kc And All a litter brother to red hot Laurels Classic favourite on Thursday night, Immunity.

"I've said all along that Equalizer is quicker than Immunity," Thompson said.

“It's just that she's a far better race dog. Equalizer ran 25.52 at Warragul last Tuesday after bombing the start. I've got no doubt if he began he would have broken the record.

"His box manners are a problem but I'm just hoping with racing that he improves. The good thing is that he's racing better in a field as he showed last week at Warragul."

Adding to Thompson's Silver Chief hopefuls are Ballarat track record holder Pirate Pete, last start Sandown winner Aussie Secret and hugely promising litter brothers Mr. America and Louie Lou which have won eight of their first nine starts collectively.

Others on a Silver Chief path is the exciting Interrogate and recent kennel acquisition Memphis Keeping.

"The plan is to trial the majority of them at The Meadows next Monday going into the heats," Thompson said.

"That will tell me where they are at."

Before turning his attention to the Silver Chief, Thompson is supremely confident he can win Thursday night's Group 2 Laurels Classic (515m) with fastest qualifier Immunity.

"She couldn't be better boxed," Thompson said.

"I said to her owner Serg Buccilli before the box draw that the best case scenario was that she drew box two and Aston Gwen drew three which is exactly how it played out.

"Box two is perfect because she's in on the second line and Aston Gwen will run cover for her early.

"I thinks she can lead but even if On The Rocks does find the front Immunity can run home in 10.40s and should be too strong. I couldn't be happier with her."
