Change Of Ownership And Kennel For Flynn

TOP flight sprinter Flynn has been moved to the kennels of Jason Thompson following changes to his ownership make-up on Tuesday.

TOP flight sprinter Flynn has been moved to the kennels of Jason Thompson following changes to his ownership make-up on Tuesday.

The part-sale, which was brokered in the past 48 hours for an undisclosed sum, brings to a close the ownership uncertainty which has followed the star son of Kinloch Brae in recent weeks.

Previously raced by the I'll Stand By You syndicate, comprising Adean Manolitsis, wife of the dog's trainer Harry, and Charlie Meo, Tuesday's part-sale will see Meo exit the ownership and be replaced by George Kairouz.

"These things happen in life sometimes and it's just best to move on as quickly as you can," said a philosophical Harry Manolitsis.

The change in ownership will see Manoltsis relinquish Flynn's training to Jason Thompson, the combination no strangers to success in the past, headlined by Moreira's Golden Easter Egg victory at Wentworth Park in 2016.

"I said if the dog isn't trained by me then there will be only two others that do (train him) and that's Jason Thompson or Jason Mackay," Manolitsis said.

"I always wanted to stay involved in the dog as an owner. I love the dog, he's like my baby, and now that's possible. I'm looking forward to enjoying watching him race again. He's a special dog."

Regarded as one of Australia's brightest stars, Flynn, who remarkably broke Fernando Bale's Bendigo 425-metre track record at just his fifth race start, was shipped to leading NSW trainer Jason Mackay in early September for a tilt at the TAB Million Dollar Chase.

Off the scene since June with ongoing injuries, Mackay produced an underdone Flynn in a heat of the Maitland leg of the TAB Million Dollar Chase on September 19, finishing an eye-catching length fourth to Black Forge.

Sadly though, further injury ruled Flynn out of the Maitland decider a week later, putting paid to the star sprinter's Million Dollar Chase claims for 2019.

It was around that time Flynn's then co-owner Charlie Meo – who bought into the dog after his record breaking Bendigo victory – advertised his share of the greyhound for sale on Facebook.

Confirming he'd lost none of his ability, in the matter of four days between October 10 and 14, Mackay rugged up Flynn for two dazzling victories, firstly at Maitland in a flying 24.79 (450m) before recording a breathtaking 25.97 at Bulli (472m).

A stunning 29.08 Group 3 Speed Star winner at Sandown Park in May, Flynn will be set for the Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup which gets underway on Friday, November 22.
