Cole Claims Third Straight Breeders' Classic

THE Lisa and Brendon Cole training machine rolled on Thursday with Big Time Kaylee cruising to victory in the $30,000 NZ Breeders’ Stakes.

THE relentless Lisa and Brendon Cole training and breeding machine rolled on at Addington on Thursday with Big Time Kaylee cruising to an effortless victory in the $30,000 New Zealand Breeders' Stakes.

Big Time Kaylee stepped away smartly from the six-trap and controlled the pace throughout to land her group 1 win by a comfortable 3 ¾ lengths when completing her 520m task in 30.16.

The Dave and Jean Fahey prepared Great Work was expected to be sighted doing his best work during the run home and he duly charged home for his runner-up prize. 

Quickest heat winner La Rochelle had to clear early traffic from where she chased after the freewheeling pacemaker. She kicked on stoutly for third. 

Big Time Kaylee derived benefit from her previous weeks heat track debut outing when she was noticeably seen "adjusting" to the wide-open spaces which features at Addington.

She chased with absolute determination in this event.

The daughter of Kilty Lad and Elle Packer has made a stunning start to her career with group 1 success arriving in just her 11th race day assignment. She has quickly advanced her stake earnings up to $28,454, the result of seven wins and three minor placings.

"We're pumped to win the NZ Breeders' again," beamed Brendon Cole.

"It clearly reinforces our breeding program. Kaylee is still learning the racing game – she's a quick learner as seen by what she took out of her heat and into the final."

The kennel has now provided the last three NZ Breeders' Stakes winners, with Bigtime Tears and Trojan Hoarse prevailing in the most recent editions.

The Cole family breeding success in this instance goes back to when Brendon, along with long time kennel client and mate Craig Rendle, imported Trendy Habit from Australia.

"We spent big money back then to bring Trendy Habit across from Aussie. She turned into a prolific broodbitch which included Elle Packer (by Premier Fantasy).  

"When Elle Packer retired, she became a broody for us and it's super exciting to breed Big Time Kaylee from her mating with Kilty Lad," advised Cole.

The Cole and Rendle combination have enjoyed massive success with previous progeny sired by Kilty Lad with his most outstanding son being Bigtime Paddy which went on to to win $221,613 (44 wins). 

Cole is also very grateful towards his kennel staff back at home base.

"We have been on the road since Wednesday. It is a great team we have at home, who all go the extra mile."

Thrilling Nina finished powerfully when she stormed to victory to annex Monday's running of the $15,000 Nancy Cobain Memorial. 

The Karen Walsh trained stayer ruthlessly cut back pace-making race favourite Bronski Beat during the run home to claim the 660m group 2 event by a 3 ¼ lengths, clocking 38.07s.

The Gary Harding owned, Australian bred daughter of Mogambo and Monaco Icon is fashioning a very respectable race record over the longer journeys with her power-packed finishes stating that big ticket staying victories awaits her.

Undoubtedly the June running of the $100,000 Duke Of Edinburgh Silver Collar will be the main target.
