Connections Knock Back Big Offer For Iconic Jet
CARLI-ANN Taylor and Steve Dixon will watch the final of the Group 1 Silver Chief at The Meadows from entirely different vantage points.
CARLI-ANN Taylor and her partner Steve Dixon will watch next weekend's final of the Group 1 Silver Chief (525m) at The Meadows from entirely different vantage points.
They race super WA youngster Iconic Jet (Bernardo-Rippin' Memphis) which led throughout to win his heat of the Silver Chief in 29.89 on Saturday night as the $1.50 favourite.
Trainer Shayne Williams sent the dog to Brendan Pursell to prepare for the series, but he and Carli-Ann will be in Melbourne for the final.
Carli-Ann's partner Steve will be in Africa as a fly in-fly-out miner.
"Carli-Ann face-timed with Steve to watch and see the result of the heat," said Shayne.
"But, Steve does not get back from Africa until a few days after the final."
Iconic Jet is only the second dog raced by Carlia-Ann and Steve.
And only last week they knocked back a $150,000 offer for the winner now of 13 of his 19 starts.
Shayne has a want to win a feature race interstate.
Iconic Jet ran second in the G3 SA Derby in September, and other kennel runners have been beaten in the G2 Queensland Derby final and G3 Darwin Cup.
The dog was sensational in his first-look trial at The Meadows running 29.56.
"But, he got a bit tired coming to the line last night and that has me a little worried," said Shayne.
"I'm in constant contact with Brendan and he does the best of jobs.
"We purposely made the decision to send him to Melbourne and leave him there.
"Robbie Britton, a great mentor of mine in training, has always been inclined to do that."
Iconic Jet has drawn the six in the final after coming out of the two in his heat.
"The five (Paw Qwan) is not quick out and likes to head to the fence," said Shayne.
"Epitomize is drawn the eight and he will stay out there early."
Iconic Jet has "jet like" back straight pace breaking Crumble Monelli's second section record at Mandurah.
"The best thing about him is he has just turned two so he has a great career ahead of him," said Shayne.
He has already won the G3 WA Young Stars, been second in the G3 SA Derby and also been a finalist in the WA-Bred Championship.
