Cooke's Warning Ahead Of Cash Master's Egg Return

CASH Master makes his comeback to racing in the G1 Golden Easter Egg on Saturday night but trainer Robert Cooke has a warning for punters.

NORTHERN Rivers star Cash Master makes his long-awaited comeback to racing in a heat of the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but part-owner and trainer Robert Cooke has a warning for punters.

“I would probably like another couple of weeks in his preparation to have him at his top,” said Cooke.

“But, I'm hoping he gets through to the semis and then to the final. He'll be at his top then.”

Cash Master (Aston Dee Bee-Cashpot) has not raced since finishing fourth to Springtime Jet at Albion Park back on January 12.

“He hurt a wrist and then on the way back he hurt a chest muscle,” said Cooke.

Cash Master, the Grafton sprint track record holder and winner of the QGOLD Emerging Sprinters, has won at Albion Park in 29.58.

Cooke took him to Wentworth Park for a box-to-box last Wednesday week but was disappointed.

“He went 5.52 to the first mark and 18.12 to the back,” said Cooke.

“He's got to come out better in the heats on Saturday night.”

But Cooke is confident Cash Master will.

“I've been working on him since then and he has trialled very fast for me since,” he said.

“He actually broke his half brother Cash View's short boxes record at Grafton in his first trial back after the injury.”

Cash Master has drawn the six in his heat and comes up against classy WA galloper Custard Monelli and G1 National Futurity finalist Queen Of Scotch, recent winner of the SA St Leger.

“The six is not ideal, but at least he has a vacant box inside him,” said Cooke.

Cooke and part-owner Pat Gainey recently knocked back a $150,000 NSW offer for Cash Master.
