20 races in front of a big crowd with spirited betting kicked off the Coonamble October long weekend carnival on Friday.

The 12 race night program saw over $22,000 distributed in prize money, with participants at the meeting lavish in their praise of GRNSW's decision last month to increase the stake-money to TAB levels.

Greyhound Racing NSW CEO Tony Mestrov was on hand at Friday night's card along with some of his management team, making a distinct effort to get around and speak to as many of the jovial crowd as possible.

On the track the competition was just as fierce as it was in the betting ring, with some significant betting plunges pulled off across the card.

Time honours for the night meeting was set by the Bobby Green-trained Valour Rumble, the daughter of Collision scoring by 6 ¼ lengths in a fast 17.44.
