Crosswell Chasing Fourth Launceston Cup Title

DAVID Crosswell will prepare two chances in Monday's Group 2 Launceston Cup Final after Quick Joey Small and Highland Wonder won their heats.

The Crosswell family will prepare two bold chances in Monday's Group 2 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup Final (515m) with the famed Aston Dee Bee x She's All Class litter claiming three heats of the showpiece event.

Veteran trainer David Crosswell, who prepares heat winners Highland Wonder and Quick Joey Small, has enjoyed great success in the Launceston Cup.

He and late wife Margaret have prepared three cup winners courtesy of Highland Summer, True Vintage and Flash Billy.

The Longford based kennel look right in contention to break their 27 year drought in the event since Flash Billy's success in the 1994 feature.

David and his daughters Debbie and Michelle will prepare two home grown chances in the final.

Quick Joey Small set the time standard for the final posting a scintillating 29.38 win from box one.

The black sprinter was well back into $1.45 favouritism before the jump and after putting up flying first and second sectional splits, broke their hearts with a 9 1/2 length victory over Definite Signs.

Winning the Cup heat brought up eight wins for Quick Joey Small with 11 minor placings from 26 career race outings.

Meanwhile, litter brother Highland Wonder proved his worth to qualify for the group 2 feature by collaring Gypsies Luck in the last few strides to score by a nose running 29.91.

Longford trainer David Crosswell was smitten by the efforts of his home grown sprinters to make the Launceston Cup.

“They are still a young litter that continue to excel – Quick Joey Small was most impressive,” Crosswell said.

“Running that time was quite a surprise. Though he has run 29.50's around Launceston, he just keeps improving. And I was happy with Highland Wonder as well doing it the hard way.

“To see these pups make such a prestigious race like the Launceston Cup is a tremendous thrill for me and the owners.”

Wynburn Sheean was the third member of the powerhouse litter to qualify for next week's final for trainer Ben Englund.

He staved  off Fabulous Baroque to score by a length in 29.63.

Blake Pursell will have a mighty hand in next week's Launceston Cup final after Goodnight Vicki and Sprint Gordon claimed their qualifiers.

Goodnight Vicki held out Wynburn Lethal to score by 1 1/2 lengths in 29.78 while Sprint Gordon qualified after finishing second to Siberia in his heat.

Blake with also continue to oversee the preparations of Eagles Nest Egg for the $40,000-to-the-winner finale.

Trained by his father Brendan Pursell, the fawn chaser streaked his opposition to score by four lengths from Bees And Honey clocking 29.66.
