Cut The Cord Lets Rip In Record Equalling Run

CUT The Cord delivered a sensational winning performance last Thursday night, equalling the Hobart 340-metre track record for Latrobe trainer Ingrid Watkins.

BERNARDO-sired youngster, Cut The Cord, delivered a sensational winning performance last Thursday night, equalling the Hobart 340-metre track record for Latrobe trainer Ingrid Watkins.

At just his second career start, Cut The Cord blew past his previous trial times and opened his winning account in a Hobart grade 6 event, running 19.05 seconds from box six.

Cut The Cord, by Bernardo out of Aeroplane Annie, scored by almost eight lengths over Town Stranger and Hellyer Sky as the $2.15 favourite on the Tasracing Official Price.

He was well supported on his debut but finished second, beaten just two lengths behind Pocket Talk.

“We had him ready to start for the Maiden Thousand, but he unfortunately broke a toe and it had to be surgically removed and was off for a month,” Ingrid's partner Michael Sheriff said of Cut The Cord.

“His trial times proved he was smart, but that performance was outstanding.”

The track record is now shared with Gravitational, winner of 16 races, which previously took the record from Hit The Switch at 19.09 seconds, a finalist in last year's GRNSW Thunderbolt at Grafton in NSW.

Prior to that the track record was held by Buckle Up Logan at 19.13 seconds.

“It's all been a significant learning experience for Cut The Cord. Considering it was only his second start, you would understand that anything could go wrong – he's still very inexperienced,” Michael said.

Bred in Victoria by Braden Finn, who both he and Ingrid shared in the spoils of My Boy Bingo winning the Maiden Thousand back in January, sold Cut The Cord's litter to Ingrid and Michael.

Cut The Cord is a half-brother to recent Gosford 388-metre track record holder Jimmy's Jet, also a track record breaker at Mandurah.

Ingrid and Michael have also purchased Aeroplane Annie's latest litter of five pups to ill-fated sire Aussie Infrared, whelped in June of last year, that are currently eight months old.

Cut The Cord will be back in Hobart this Tuesday contesting a Grade 6 over 340-metres.

“If he gets through this next run, we'll plan to trial him and step up towards the 461m next,” Michael said.
